AN INSPIRING SPEECH FROM STEPHENIE NKEM, BEST GRADUAND OF THE JUST CONCLUDED CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF IBOM METROPOLITAN POLYTECHNIC, UYO.
As I stand here today receiving this honour, I want to proudly dedicate this milestone to my rock, Jesus Christ, who makes everything possible. Also to the one person who laid this foundation, my angelic mother, Mrs. Rosemary Aguili, Mommy, you strive so that I could stand. You broke your back so I could hold my head high. But unfortunately you left me before you could see me wearing this cap we always talked about. So I know you are looking down from heaven today with a massive smile, that your sacrifices were never in vain.
Your Stephanie did it, We did it.
This journey wasn't just always about wishing for success, though. It took some serious study and a bit of friendly competition. Because I love intellectual competition. In 2024, I looked at the best graduating students of the accounting department and told myself, in truth, I want that or better. Today, I'm happy to report that I won the better. Thank you, Jesus.
To my amazing coursemates who invented a clever nickname that stuck, 'Human AI', And to the incredible class of 2023, from every single department, we started this journey together, navigating crowded lecture halls and endless stress. Today we pass the finish line.
Also, I would love us to remember that it is so incredibly important not just to read, but to truly understand our courses so that we can confidently defend our certificates and school out there in the real world. If it's possible for me to stand here as the best graduating student in 2024/2025 academic session, you can absolutely do it too. Set your targets high and go after them.
To the Management body and Staff of the iconic Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo, thank you so much for giving us the wonderful space to excel. May you grow better and make a name for yourself.
To all my able and beloved Lecturers that advised, guided, nurtured me and saw me through courses and classes, I appreciate all your efforts. May God reward your labour.
To my dad and my siblings, I thank you all for supporting my being here and for always having my back. I cherish you all.
To my wonderful, funny, and crazy Coursemates and the set of 2023, thank you all for the laughs, the time we read together, the corporation, the backing, and the iconic nickname.
In accounting terms, I'm happy to announce that the ledgers have now balanced. The accounts are closed and our future is open for business. Let us all go out there and make waves in our different fields. This is Stephenie Nkem of the accounting department, class of '2023, signing out. Thank you.
